August Penguin 2007 - The Israeli Open Source Community Conference

The August Penguins are yearly communal Israeli conferences dedicated to Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) organised by the Hamakor Non-Profit Organisation and the rest of the Israeli open-source community.

This year's August Penguin will take place on 10 August 2007 (the second Friday of August), in ZOA House in Tel Aviv. We gather at 08:00 in the morning, and the talks themselves start at 09:00 in the morning.

9:00-9:45 Opening: summary of the past year of the Hamakor Society - Shachar Shemesh
9:45-9:55 Announcements.
9:55-10:05 Israeli Internet Society: report on the open source grants activity in the past year and the upcoming year.
10:05-10:50 Social Activism for Beginners: Ram-On Agmon. How it is possible, using a mail box and a few hours each month, to bring an advancement of social pereptions. Cooperation with the Israeli Ministry of Treasury in order to introduce Linux-based computers to the education system.
10:50-11:10 Break
11:10-12:10 The "One Laptop Per Child" (OLPC) Project for third world countries - Zvi Dvir. Live demonstration of the project of the $100 computer, including a talk on the objectives of the project, ways of operation, and a demonstration of a live system.
12:10-12:40 Open Office in Hebrew - project directions - Yonathan Ben-Avraham.
